Endangered species in transit must be accompanied by a CITES permit issued by the CITES Management Authority of the exporting place at the time of import. During its stay in Hong Kong, it must be under the control of an authorized officer.

In the case of live animals,this Department must be notified in writing the details about the shipment at least 3 working days before the date of the expected arrival of the animal. If required, the Director may, by notice published in the Gazette, specify a number of working days in substitution for the aforesaid 3 working days requirement in respect of a scheduled species.
