Is there any coral reef in Hong Kong waters?

| Coral Colonies found at Bluff Island |
Located at the northern edge of the tropical Indo-Pacific region, neither giant calcium carbonate framework nor true reef structure can be found in Hong Kong waters.
Corals in Hong Kong usually direct attach onto boulders and bedrock and form scattered fringing coral communities along the coast. They assemble into small sub-tidal reefs but rarely into intertidal colonies because the winter air temperature is low enough to kill the exposed corals. Due to turbidity, the greatest abundance of stony corals is found at about -1 m to -3 m C.D. in depth and unlikely extend to more than -10 m C.D.
