Where can I find the coral communities in Hong Kong?

Coral Colonies at Bluff Island
Coral Colonies at Bluff Island

Isolated coral colonies can be found from shallow waters of the rocky shores around Hong Kong's outlying islands and mainland.

The richest coral communities prevail to the east of Hong Kong where waters is free from the influence of Pearl River and sheltered.

Although the western waters is estuarine and turbid, scattered stony coral communities have also been recorded in the area, such as Soko Islands.

The central region is a transition of the western estuarine and the eastern oceanic zones. However, because of the unsuitable water quality in that area, few stony corals can survive there.
