Netted Moray Gymnothorax reticularis
Netted Moray
Gymnothorax  reticularis  (Muraenidae)

Its body is white to yellow, with 15-22 incomplete brown vertical bars made up of many small brown dots. The abundance of this species is not known. It was observed at Port Island and in Port Shelter.

On the dark green or blackish-brown body, there are yellow undulating lines. This species is apparently rare in Hong Kong waters. It is recently known from Port Island and Port Shelter.

The Spotted Seahorse, which may be bright yellow with black spots, is still found in reasonable numbers in eastern waters. The male seahorse broods the young inside a special pouch after the female has transferred her eggs to him during mating. The individual shown is a male with the pouch visible below the round belly. Spotted seahorses can reach 30 cm in length.

Pipefish

 Pipefish   Syngnathus  schlegeli  (Syngnathidae)

It was reported to be abundant locally . This pipefish was found in Tung Ping Chau.

Marbled rockfish are one of the most abundant local reef fish, occurring frequently in hard substrata. This temperate species thrives in the colder months and juveniles can be extremely abundant at this time, occupying almost every coral head on shallow coral communities. Mating occurs in November and December and up to 3 or 4 batches of 20,000 larvae are released. Males fight for females prior to mating, locking mouths and biting each other on the heads.
