Where are the coral reefs?
Owing to the presence of photosynthetic symbiotic algae, distribution of reef-building corals is mainly controlled by sea water temperature and light intensity. Other important factors include substratum type, water flow and water quality. Coral reefs are found only in tropical and subtropical waters, mostly in shallow waters of depth less than 30m and on both sides of equator up to 25° North and South latitude.
