Report Strandings

What types of information can be obtained from a dead Indo-Pacific finless porpoise?

Upon receiving a stranding report, AFCD will organize an investigation team to the site to investigate the case and collect tissue samples (if dead) of the stranded animal as soon as possible.

Depending on the level of decomposition, samples of skin, blubber, liver, kidney, stomach, reproductive organs, skull and teeth will be collected for studying the cause of death and the life history (including feeding habit, growth and reproduction, ecotoxicology and stock structure) of the animal.
