Criteria

  • The site regularly holds 16 globally threatened species and 7 threatened species. Among the globally threatened species, 2 are critically endangered while 3 are endangered.
  • The site is the type locality for 13 species of invertebrates including one crab species that is found nowhere else in the world.
  • In 1999-2004, Deep Bay supported on average 57,000 waterfowl in mid-winter.
  • The site regularly holds over 1% of the global populations of Black-faced Spoonbill (Platalea minor), Black-headed gull (Larus ridibundus) and Spotted Redshank (Tringa erythropus).
