Description: The body features of the fish are similar to those of M. hongkongensis but smaller in size and have beautiful body coloration. The sides of the fish are marked with reddish brown and metallic blue vertical bars. A distinct round blue green dot is present on operculum. Male fish generally exhibits a brighter colour and has substantially longer fins than female fish. During spawning season and confrontation, the coloration of abdomen of male fish changes to blue black.
