Description:
A median cyprinid with a long, spindle-shaped and laterally compressed body. It has a small head with a ventral mouth bearing 2 pairs of barbels. The caudal fin is deeply forked. Its back is greenish grey while its body is silvery white with a black rhomb shortly behind the pectoral base.

Distribution in Hong Kong
Not common in streams but occurs in large numbers in many reservoirs and cultivated in fishponds as food fish.
Global Distribution
Southern China and Southeast Asia.
