Description: A median cyprinid with a long, spindle-shaped and laterally compressed body. It has a small head with a ventral mouth bearing 2 pairs of barbels. The caudal fin is deeply forked. Its back is greenish grey while its body is silvery white with a black rhomb shortly behind the pectoral base.

Distribution in Hong Kong
  • Not common in streams but occurs in large numbers in many reservoirs and cultivated in fishponds as food fish.
Global Distribution
  • Southern China and Southeast Asia.
