Description: Chameleon Goby has a slender body and an anteriorly depressed head. Its body is pale brown in colour with 2 distinct black horizontal stripes running from the head to the base of caudal fin. As suggested by its scientific name, the fish possess tricuspid outer teeth on the upper and lower jaws. The anal fin of living specimen has 2 unobvious reddish stripes and a white stripe in between.

Distribution in Hong Kong
  • A very common species widely distributed in intertidal regions.
Global Distribution
  • China, Korea, Japan, Australia, California and Siberia. Reported to be introduced into other countries with its associated species, Pacific oyster Crassostrea gigias, during commercial shipment.
