The need for marine parks and marine reserves
Hong Kong is one of the busiest harbours in the world and part of its coastline has been reclaimed for accommodating the increasing population and economic growth. Fortunately, much of Hong Kong coastline and the diverse marine life still remain. However, they are threatened by sewage, dredging, dumping, reclamation and other forms of threats such as destructive fishing. There is a need to protect and conserve the marine environment for the purposes of conservation, education and recreation.
