* Footpath Improvement at Yuen Tun Main Menu Main Menu Main Menu

Background

Due to weathering and prolonged usage, the Yuen Tun Trail has greatly deteriorated in recent years, adversely affecting our countryside scenery.  To reduce the hazard that it posed to hikers, we decided to undertake improvement works to the trail.

Improvement works undertaken

The improvement works was mainly undertaken on steep and heavily eroded sections of the footpath.  To facilitate usage by hikers, soil steps were put in place and where situation permits, natural materials such as logs and stones were used.  However, erosion of most sections still occurred and areas affected continued to expand.  As a result, we decided to cover some of the most seriously eroded sections with rocks and constructed drains to effectively convey rainwater to prevent erosion.

These measures would effectively restrict hikers to designated footpaths, and avoid deliberate damage due to trampling, thereby improving the countryside environment.
