Advisory Committee on Sustainable Fisheries Development Fund holds first meeting
Tuesday, April 1, 2014

The Advisory Committee on Sustainable Fisheries Development Fund held its first meeting today (April 1) to discuss the operation of and application guidelines for the Fund. The Fund is expected to be open for application around the middle of this year.

The Chief Executive announced, in his 2013 Policy Address, the setting up of the Fund to help the local fishing community move towards sustainable or high value-added operations so that the trade can enhance its overall competitiveness and cope with new challenges. This would allow fishermen to improve their livelihood and their ability to cope with the changing operating environment.

The advisory committee will advise the Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation on the overall strategy for funding projects and the relative priorities of applications for funding support under the Fund. It will make recommendations regarding the procedures, guidelines and criteria for assessing applications as well as vetting applications.

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department will introduce the Fund and the application guidelines to the trade in due course in response to the recommendation made by the advisory committee at the meeting.
