Temporary closure of hiking trails
Tuesday, May 20, 2014

A spokesman for the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) today (May 20) announced that due to landslides and fallen trees, some hiking trails are now temporarily closed until further notice. They include:

* Tsz Lo Lan Shan Path (near Tsin Shui Wan Au), Tai Tam Country Park
* Fun Lau Country Trail, Lantau South Country Park
* Tai Long Wan Hiking Trail (from Sai Wan Pavilion to Chui Tung Au), Sai Kung East Country Park
* MacLehose Trail Section 2 (from Tai Long Au to Chek Keng), Sai Kung East Country Park
* Cheung Sheung Country Trail (from Yung Shue O to Cheung Sheung), Sai Kung West Country Park
* Shing Mun Forest Track Lead Mine Pass Section, Shing Mun Country Park
* Wilson Trail Section 7 (near Shing Mun Reservoir), Shing Mun Country Park
* Wang Tsat Ancient Trail, Pat Sin Leng Country Park

The AFCD is arranging clean-up and repair works for the areas affected. Notices have been posted at the entrances of the affected trails, on notice boards in country parks and at visitor centres to remind hikers not to use these trails for safety reasons. Updated information will be available on the department's website (www.hkwalkers.net/pathinfo/announcement_eng.php).

The spokesman advised hikers to check weather conditions and plan the route carefully before setting out. Always go hiking in the company of others and with a leader who is familiar with the route. Avoid hiking in unsettled weather.

If members of the public find other trails or facilities affected by landslides or fallen trees, please call 1823 or send an email to mailbox@afcd.gov.hk to inform the AFCD.
