Dog Adoption Carnival to be held this weekend
Wednesday, March 4, 2015

The "Pets With love" Dog Adoption Carnival will be held at Wai Man Road Playground in Sai Kung from 11am to 6pm this Saturday (March 7) and Sunday (March 8).

The event is jointly organised by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD), the Conservation of Earth & Animal Association, Hong Kong Dog Rescue, the Hong Kong Society of Herpetology Foundation, Lifelong Animal Protection, the Lamma Animal Welfare Centre, the Society for Abandoned Animals, Sai Kung Buffalo Watch, Sai Kung Stray Friends and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

It aims to encourage people to adopt abandoned or unclaimed dogs and promote responsible pet ownership. Members of the public who successfully adopt a dog via the event will be awarded a free dog training course offered by the AFCD for their pet.

The AFCD encourages the public to adopt abandoned or surrendered animals through animal welfare organisations. Currently, abandoned pets or unclaimed animals with a friendly temperament and good health will be sent to 13 partner animal welfare organisations for adoption. Free desexing operations will be offered for these animals when they are adopted.

An array of informative and entertaining activities will be held at the carnival including celebrities sharing their experience of keeping dogs, performances by AFCD Quarantine Detector Dogs and police dogs, game booths, a dog playground, an educational exhibition, handicraft workshops, dog adoption and dog licensing services as well as vet consultation services. Visitors will also have the chance to meet the dogs that are up for adoption.

Admission to the adoption day is free. Participants are welcome to bring their pets. All dogs entering the venue should be under proper control in addition to being licensed, vaccinated and microchipped.
