Dog Adoption Carnival to be held this weekend
Thursday, January 14, 2016

The "Pets With love" Dog Adoption Carnival will be held at the Soccer Pitch, Lai Chi Kok Park Phase 1, from noon to 6pm on Saturday and Sunday (January 16 and 17).

The event is jointly organised by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD), Cheung Chau Animal Care, Hong Kong Cats, the Hong Kong Society of Herpetology Foundation, Lifelong Animal Protection, the Society for Abandoned Animals and the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

Seeking to promote animal adoption and responsible pet ownership, the event encourages people to give abandoned or unclaimed dogs a new home through adoption. Those who successfully adopt a dog at the event will be awarded a free dog training course offered by the AFCD for their dog.

The AFCD encourages the public to adopt animals that have been abandoned or surrendered for adoption through animal welfare organisations. Currently, abandoned pets or unclaimed animals with a friendly temperament and good health will be sent to 15 partner animal welfare organisations for adoption. Free desexing operations will be offered for these animals when they are adopted.

An array of informative and entertaining activities will be held at the carnival including celebrities sharing their experience of keeping dogs, performances by AFCD quarantine detector dogs and police dogs, child dance performances, game booths, a dog playground, an educational exhibition, handicraft workshops, dog adoption and dog licensing services as well as vet consultation services. Visitors will also have the chance to meet some of the dogs that are up for adoption.

Admission to the adoption day is free and participants are welcome to bring their dogs. All dogs entering the venue should be under proper control in addition to being licensed, vaccinated against rabies and microchipped.
