Culling operation completed
Tuesday, June 7, 2016

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) completed the poultry culling operation at around noon today (June 7).

A total of 5 643 poultry, comprising 48 chickens, 2 000 silky fowls, 825 pheasants, 600 chukars and 2 170 pigeons, were destroyed. They were sent to landfills for disposal.

Forty-two staff took part in the operation.

The Cheung Sha Wan Temporary Wholesale Poultry Market was thoroughly cleaned and disinfected today to prevent the virus from growing and accumulating in the environment.

In addition, the AFCD has completed inspections on all local chicken farms and testing is ongoing.

Surveillance and monitoring of local chicken farms will be maintained. The AFCD has requested all poultry farmers to immediately report abnormalities and adhere strictly to enforcing farm biosecurity measures.
