FarmFest 2018 opens at Fa Hui Park in Mong Kok
Friday, January 12, 2018

The three-day FarmFest 2018 is being held at Fa Hui Park in Mong Kok from today (January 12) to January 14 to showcase a wide variety of local agricultural and fisheries products and other related goods.

Jointly organised by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD), the Vegetable Marketing Organization and the Fish Marketing Organization, FarmFest is the largest outdoor farmers' market in Hong Kong, where local producers can directly promote their products to consumers. FarmFest accommodates more than 380 stalls, over 200 of which offer organic and premium local produce such as fresh fruits and vegetables, fisheries produce, dried seafood and ornamental plants for sale. Booths selling local delicacies, kitchenware, household goods and eco-friendly products are also available.

Apart from shopping for their favourite items, the public can visit the exhibition area which showcases locally produced fresh selected crops and fish fry. In addition, interactive 3D paintings under the themes of agriculture and fisheries are set up at this year's exhibition for visitors to take memorable photos with their families and friends.

FarmFest also offers various fringe activities such as cooking demonstrations, talks, music and cultural performances for the enjoyment of people of all ages. Admission is free. The event will be open from 10am to 8pm. A free shuttle bus service is available every 15 minutes from Shek Kip Mei MTR Station Exit B1 located at Woh Chai Street.

To tie in with the launch of the green event guidebook by the Environmental Protection Department and the Business Environment Council earlier, this year's FarmFest has adopted green practices as promoted in the guidebook to achieve waste reduction and clean recycling, thus enhancing the overall environmental performance of the event.

Premium local produce is always well received by consumers. In view of the market demand, the AFCD has been actively supporting the local agricultural and fisheries sectors to increase productivity and enhance product quality and marketing of local products in recent years to facilitate sustainable development of the industry.

Furthermore, to enable the public to know more about the behind-the-scenes details of local agriculture and fisheries, the AFCD has invited a number of local farmers and fishermen to share their personal stories and experience at work through videos.
