Dog Licensing, Microchip Identification and Vaccination against Rabies

DOG LICENCE APPLICATION PROCEDURE

Dogs aged over 3 months can be inoculated against rabies, microchipped and licenced. It is illegal to keep dogs aged over 5 months without a licence. You can bring your dog to any one of the licensing centres of the Agriculture & Fisheries Department for licensing and inoculation against rabies. It is not necessary to make advance booking and a Dog licence will be issued to you at once. The whole procedure takes about 15 minutes. There is a fee charged for the licence.

You may also take your dog to any one of the authorised private veterinary surgeons or the SPCA centres for inoculation and microchipping. The licence will be forwarded to you through the veterinary clinic in due course. The private veterinary surgeon may impose an additional charge* for the service provided to you.

A dog licence is valid for 3 years and the dog has to be revaccinated against rabies to renew the licence. If your dog has been implanted with a compatible microchip, there is no need to implant again.

The licence is not transferable. A dog keeper must advise Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department of any change in ownership or any change in his/her address within 5 days of the change.

FEES FOR DOG LICENCES (effective from 16 Feb 2001)

  • Dogs being microchipped, vaccinated and licenced by authorized officers of AFCD: $80
  • Dogs being microchipped and vaccinated by authorized private veterinary surgeon:
