Taking Good Care of Your Animals

Think carefully before getting a dog – it is a life-long commitment

Commitment

  • A dog can live for 15 or more years. If you get a dog, it is your responsibility for all that time.
  • Are you prepared to make this commitment?
  • Don't buy a cute puppy on impulse. Lots of puppies bought this way end up being surrendered or abandoned.

Affordability

  • Can you afford to keep a dog?
  • A dog can cost you a lot of money for food, veterinary care, etc.

Residence

  • Are you permitted to keep a dog in your residence?
  • Your neighbours may complain – especially if your dog barks or is aggressive.
  • Do all your family members like dogs?
  • Will you be able to live with a dog in your house?

Exercise

  • Dogs need daily exercise and have to go to the toilet!
  • Will you have enough time to look after your dog properly?
