Are Indo-Pacific finless porpoises protected?
All wild marine mammals in Hong Kong waters are protected by the Wild Animals Protection Ordinance (Cap. 170). Import, export and possession of these animals are restricted under the Protection of Endangered Species of Animals and Plants Ordinance(Cap. 586).
Besides, Indo-Pacific finless porpoise is listed as "Vulnerable" in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, and CITES Appendix I (i.e. highest protection). In Mainland, it is listed as a "Grade II National Key Protected Species".
