AFCD has commissioned a number of Conservation Projects and Studies to collect baseline information of the ecological conditions of the Mai Po Inner Deep Bay Ramsar Site.
Baseline Ecological Monitoring Programme
Under the Ramsar Convention and the recommendation of the Conservation and Management Plan for the Ramsar Site, the then Agriculture and Fisheries Department initiated a Baseline Ecological Monitoring Programme (BEMP) for the Ramsar Site in 1998. In 2000, a Technical Manual (TM) was prepared by the Hyder Consulting as the guide for the implementation of the programme.
The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department has implemented the Baseline Ecological Monitoring Programme since 2001 in order to establish baseline datasets of the ecological characters of the Mai Po Inner Deep Bay Ramsar Site.
The programme includes monitoring of both core ecological parameters including analyses on benthic fauna, habitat quality and changes and supplementary data namely water quality, sediment quality and sedimentation rate.
