Description: The rose bitterling is a small cyprinid characterized by a high-backed and laterally compressed body. It has a small head and a terminal mouth with barbels.The body of juvenile is more elongated with greater body size ratio (length/depth). The fish has a pale orange-red body with a bluish green line running from rear half of the body to caudal peduncle. The males have brighter colors than the females. The back of male fish is greyish green with blue-green metallic cobalt tints between the back of the head and the origin of the dorsal fin while the female young fish has a black spot on the dorsal fin.

Distribution in Hong Kong
  • Recorded from a few localities in New Terrorities and a reservoir in Sha Tin .
