Description: A small-sized shrew; the pelage is light brownish-grey above, and paler grey to faintly tinged brown below; eyes are very small with prominent ears, and the snout is shrew-characterized tapered and pronounced, which projects beyond the lower lip; the tail is short, which is about 50% of the head-to-body length, and it is bi-coloured which is dark brown above, light below; both feet bear five digits with claws, thinly covered by short pale hairs on ventral side, and characterized by enlarged fore claws.

Distribution in Hong Kong
  • Fairly widely distributed. Found in Tai Po Kau, Pak Sha O, Wong Lung Hang and Pok Fu Lam.

  • Assam, Sikkim, Nepal, Bhutan, Burma, Thailand, Vietnam, Peninsular Malaysia, and Southern China.
