2008 Update of Terrestrial Habitat Mapping and Ranking Based on Conservation Value

In 2008, the Sustainable Development Unit (SDU) of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government commissioned a study (2008 Study) to update the terrestrial ecological baseline data of the previous 2006 Study using the latest remote sensing data (including satellite images and aerial photographs), as well as geospatial data and field truthing surveys.

Habitat Classification Scheme

The same 24 habitat classes used in the 2006 Study were retained. Again, each identified habitat type was assigned an indicative ecological value of either high, medium, low or negligible.
