Roving exhibition to promote marine conservation Friday, January 28, 2000
The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) has launched a roving exhibition today (Friday) to help promote understanding of our marine environment and the importance of its conservation.
The exhibition will be first staged at Kowloon Park from January 28 to February 10.
Speaking on the project, Marine Parks Officer, Dr Cheng Wo-wing said: "The exhibition serves to introduce to the public the beautiful seascape, the majestic coast, the tranquil marine environment and the rich and diverse marine habitat found in Hong Kong.
"It will be a wonderful alternative for a family to spend their Lunar New Year holidays."
The exhibition will be in a form of an interactive audio-visual display.
Apart from a variety of informative panels, there are display of models of Chinese white dolphin and finless porpoise, a video show on marine parks and marine reserve as well as interactive games for visitors to learn more on the diversity of local marine life.
All modular display units are specially designed to represent the natural marine environment, depicting sandy beach, rocky shore, coral reefs and even the deep sea.
Dr Cheng said gigantic inkjet prints showing the underwater world had been installed to create a deep sea effect.
"A selection of corals, specimens of shells and an endangered species, the green turtle, will be shown on top of a sandy platform for the public to get a glimpse of the mysterious marine world," he added.
The exhibition is organised in support of the Healthy Living into the 21st Century Campaign.
Kicked off today by the Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation, Mrs Lessie Wei, the roving exhibition will be staged at five other places before concluding by the end of March this year.
Members of the public can also visit the exhibition at the following venues:
