Agriculture and fisheries advisory members appointed

The Secretary for the Environment and Food has made appointments to the Advisory Committee on Agriculture and Fisheries (ACAF) for a new term of service starting May 20, 2000 to May 19, 2002.

ACAF is a non-statutory body which advise the Government on the development of local agriculture and fisheries industries and the wholesale marketing of related products.
Speaking on the new term of service, a Government spokesman said: "Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation used to act as chairman of the committee.
"An unofficial is appointed to lead the advisory body in the new term.
"This is to enhance representativeness of the committee and to further boost public participation in its work," he added.
The term of reference of ACAF include:
* To advise the Government on matters pertaining to:
(a) the development of agriculture and fisheries production in Hong Kong;
(b) the formulation of agricultural, fisheries and other related policies; and
(c) any other matters relating to the production, distribution and marketing of agriculture and fisheries products as may arise.
* To appoint sub-committees or working groups, which may include co-opted persons and public officers, to further the committee's functions.
