Better facilities for country park visitors
Saturday, June 17, 2000

"Let's have a brew-up: how do you like your tea?"

From now on, enjoying a cup of freshly-brewed tea while taking comforting retreat in our scenic countryside is no longer a mere wish.

Speaking at an opening ceremony today (June 17), Assistant Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation, Dr Wong Fook-yee said tea-making facilities were installed, for the first time, at local country park, the Lung Fu Shan Country Park.

"These include shelter, tables, benches, stoves and lockers, all specially designed for the enjoyment and convenience of morning walkers."

Other park facilities provided included clothes-hangers for morning walkers to hang their overcoats after their morning exercises.

"If they are interested, they may also try out for themselves practical work in planting at plantation sites provided in the park," he added.

The Lung Fu Shan Country Park was designated in December 1998.

"Lung Fu Shan has long been a hot spot among morning walkers residing in the Central and Western District," Dr Wong said.

A visitor survey conducted before the designation of Lung Fu Shan Country Park revealed a great need for rain shelters and fitness equipment.

Over the year, more shelters have been installed. At present, there are 13 shelters at Lung Fu Shan Country Park.

Besides, a total of five extra sets of fitness equipment have been set up at the country park.

"We hope our continue effort in introducing improvements to country park facilities will help provide a better recreational environment for both morning walkers and other visitors," he noted.

Dr Wong Fook-yee together with members of the Central and Western District Council and the morning walkers association officiated at an opening ceremony of a rain shelter set up at Lung Fu Shan Country Park today.

A tree-planting activity was held after the ceremony for residents of the Central and Western District.
