Members of the public are invited to visit an exhibition on outstanding entries to the Clean Marine Parks Photographic and Painting Competition to see how local youth captured the beauty of the marine environment in Hong Kong.
The exhibition, organised by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, will be staged at the foyer of Hong Kong Cultural Centre from June 23 to 26.
Speaking on the exhibition today (June 22), Marine Parks Officer, Mr Chow Wing-kuen, said: "The photographic and painting competition serves to promote awareness of the need to keep marine parks clean and in protecting our rich and diverse marine resources.
"It was held in support of the Healthy Living into the 21st Century Campaign."
Entry subjects are divided into the underwater and seashore categories for the photographic competition and there are the primary school, secondary school and the open categories for the painting competition.
Mr Chow noted that entries to the painting competition mostly featured the wildlife and visitor activities in marine parks.
"Entries to the photographic competition give beautiful depiction to the majestic coast, the tranquil marine environment and the rich and diverse marine habitat found in Hong Kong.
"More than 70 outstanding pieces will be shown at the exhibition for the public to see, through the participants' perception, the beauty and functions of marine parks.
"Visitors can also get a glimpse of our beautiful seascape and the mysterious underwater world," he added.
A total of 503 entries were received as the competition closed on January 14.
"We are impressed by the encouraging response from both students and the public.
"We hope the activities will be able to spark off interest and concern of local students for the conservation of marine life and the marine environment" Mr Chow said.
A prize presentation ceremony, officiated by Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation, Mrs Lessie Wei, and Chairman of the Country and Marine Parks Board, Mr John Wong, will be held this Saturday (June 24) at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre.
