Saturday, June 13, 2009
The "Dragonfly Festival" was launched today (June 13) at the Hong Kong Wetland Park featuring a mix of educational and entertaining activities for visitors to learn more about the interesting life of dragonfly.
From today until the end of September, the park will present a wide array of specially-designed activities for all ages. One of the highlights is the public lecture delivered by a dragonfly expert who will share his experience of exploring this "winged jewel" of Hong Kong.
Visitors are also invited to join the guided tours to observe the beauty of dragonfly and to learn more about its close relationship with wetlands.
For those with an artistic mind, a photo competition, origami and papercutting workshops allow visitors to capture the delicate characteristics of the dragonfly while the short animation and drama introduce the life of dragonfly in a delightful manner.
Through the exhibitions displaying papercutting artworks and the award-winning proposals of the "Dragonfly Watching Route Design Competition", visitors can also appreciate the beauty of the dragonfly that inspires creative expression and arouses interest in eco-exploration.
About 115 species of dragonflies have been recorded in Hong Kong, and 46 of them can be found at the Wetland Park.
