Mariculturists can apply for transfer of fish culture licences
Friday, June 7, 2002
Mariculturists who want to transfer the ownership of their marine fish culture licences can now apply to the Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation for the transfer.
According to the Marine Fish Culture (Amendment) Ordinance 2002 which is gazetted today (June 7), mariculturists who own a marine fish culture licence for at least two years are allowed to transfer their licence at a fee of $180 from today, a spokesman for the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) said.
"At present there are about 1,300 fish culture licences and permits. Allowing transfer of licences will provide a chance for mariculturists to hand over the ownership of their licences to other mariculturists or new comers.
"This measure will provide a channel for those who want to invest in the fish culture industry to enlarge the scale of production with adoption of modern husbandry practices. Better economy of scale and enhanced competitiveness will increase the sustainability of the fish culture industry," the spokesman said.
AFCD will distribute letters and application forms to all mariculturists to inform them details of the new measure.
Mariculturists who are interested to apply for the transfer should submit the completed forms in person to AFCD Headquarters, 5th floor, Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices, 303 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon. For enquiries, please call AFCD's Licensing and Enforcement Section at 2150 7108.
