Public invited to join wetland origami competition
Saturday, October 12, 2002

Origami lovers are invited to join in a wetland origami competition to share with members of the public the fascinating world of wetland wildlife in the form of origami models.

Organised by the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) with the assistance of the Education Department and the Chinese (Hong Kong) Origami Society, the Hong Kong Wetland Origami Competition is the first of its kind to feature wetland wildlife.

"The event aims at introducing the beauty of wetland wildlife in Hong Kong and enhancing public awareness on conserving wetland. The competition also provides a chance for origami lovers to demonstrate their creativity in producing origami models.

"Covering two main themes, view on wetland wildlife and wetland wildlife origami creation, the competition is open to the public, students and overseas origami lovers," a spokesman for AFCD said today (October 12).

Trophies will be given to the first three winners of each category of competition. The winning pieces and some outstanding entries will be shown in an exhibition to be held in February and March next year.

Three workshops will be conducted to arouse the public's interest in origami during the period from October 12 to November 2 at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre. Origami workshops will also be arranged on Sundays from February 9 to March 9 next year at the Hong Kong Wetland Park, Tin Shui Wai.

Details of and entry forms for the origami competition or the workshops are available on Hong Kong Wetland Park's website at www.afcd.gov.hk/wetlandpark/.

All entries should be submitted in person or by mail to Wetland Park Division, AFCD headquarters, 6th floor, Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices, 303 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon, or Hong Kong Wetland Park, Wetland Park Road, Tin Shui Wai, New Territories on or before December 20, 2002.
