Thursday, October 31, 2002
To enhance public awareness on conserving wetland, the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) will organise free wetland eco-tours for the public from November 2002 to March 2003.
"The wetland eco-tours will introduce various wetland sites in Hong Kong and also provide a chance for the public to explore the interesting world of wetlands," a spokesman for AFCD said today (October 31).
Staged on Sundays or public holidays, the tours include ten routes covering wetlands in Tsim Bei Tsui, Nam Sang Wai, San Tau, Tai O, Tai Tam Tuk, To Kwa Peng, Kei Ling Ha, Yim Tin Tsai, Lai Chi Wo and Luk Keng.
"Each location has its highlights such as the Mai Po Inner Deep Bay Ramsar Site in Tsim Bei Tsui; reedbed and relic of salt pans in Tai O; mudflat wildlife in To Kwa Peng and Kei Ling Ha; mangroves in Lai Chi Wo; and Egretry in Luk Keng.
"Tour guides are all experienced interpreters of the Hong Kong Wetland Park. They will brief visitors on wetland wildlife and a code when touring wetlands. Volunteers who have attend comprehensive eco-tour training organised by AFCD will assist throughout the tours," the spokesman said.
Members of the public who wish to join the wetland eco-tours have to enroll in advance. Enrollment is on first-come-first-served basis. Details of the tours and enrollment forms are available on wetland tour's website at www.wetlandtour.net.
The information and enrollment forms are also available at AFCD Headquarters, 5th floor, Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices, 303 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon and Hong Kong Wetland Park, Wetland Park Road, Tin Shui Wai, New Territories.
