AFCD Angling scheme opens to more fish culture zones
Monday, January 13, 2003

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) will extend the angling trial scheme to more fish culture zones following a recent review.

"The scheme started last August at Yung Shue Au and Kau Sai fish culture zones. A review conducted recently indicated that angling activities carried out at these two fish culture zones have not caused any unacceptable impact on water quality or fish culture operations.

"Besides, the scheme was well received by both the participating mariculturists and members of the public.

"We have informed the mariculturists and representatives of the 26 fish culture zones of the outcome of the review and AFCD's decision to extend the scheme to more fish culture zones. Interested mariculturists in fish culture zones where a consensus view has been reached among themselves to proceed with angling activities may file an application with the AFCD," a spokesman for the AFCD said today (January 13).

The AFCD conducted the trial scheme last year in view of a growing demand for angling facilities and the wish of some mariculturists to arrange visitors to conduct angling activities on their fish rafts. So far, 17 letters of consent have been issued to mariculturists for operating angling activities on their rafts.

Mariculturists who wish to obtain more information of the trial scheme may contact AFCD's Fisheries Enforcement Section on 2150 7108.
