Agricultural and fisheries scholarships on offer
Sunday, June 6, 2004

Eligible people are invited to apply for scholarships and grants under the Agricultural Products Scholarship Fund and Marine Fish Scholarship Fund administered by the two scholarship fund advisory committees.

A spokesman for the department said the funds, set up in 1978, served to help those who wanted to pursue a career in local agricultural and fisheries industries or related trades upon completion of their studies.

"Those who are employed in the field and want to take further training may also apply," he said today (June 6).

The award for tertiary education is tenable for a full-time degree or sub-degree at eight local tertiary institutions funded by the University Grants Committee, the Open University of Hong Kong and other overseas institutions recognised by the scheme.

Applicants may apply for courses on agriculture, veterinary science, fisheries science, marine biology or other applied science subjects directly related to local agricultural and fisheries industries or related trades, the spokesman said.

Form four to form seven students or full-time students of the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education, whose families are related to agricultural and fisheries production or marketing in Hong Kong, may apply for the scholarships for secondary education.

All applicants should have right of abode, or have resided in Hong Kong continuously for three years immediately prior to the start of the course they applied for.

Applications for tertiary and secondary education scholarships for the coming academic year close on July 19 and August 20 respectively.

Application forms are available on the department's website www.afcd.gov.hk/news/news_e.htm, and at its headquarters, 5/F Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices, 303 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon.

The forms can also be obtained from the department's district agricultural office in Yuen Long, the Vegetable Marketing Organisation's office in Cheung Sha Wan Wholesale Vegetable Market and six fisheries liaison offices in Tai Po, Castle Peak, Aberdeen, Shau Kei Wan, Cheung Chau and Sai Kung.
