Names invited for the Yuen Long crocodile
Monday, July 12, 2004
An open competition is now under way to name the now-famous Yuen Long crocodile, an Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department spokesman said today (July 12).
The competition, co-organised with RTHK Radio 2, comprises three categories: primary school children, secondary school children and the general public. Entries in Chinese and English should reach RTHK Radio 2 by mail, e-mail or Short Message Service (SMS) on or before July 30.
There will be a total of 6 winners, each to be awarded a $1000 book coupon," the spokesman said.
Suggestions should be sent to RTHK Radio 2 at 30 Broadcast Drive, Kowloon Tong, or emailed to morningsuite@rthk.org.hk. SMS users can dial 500948 to make submissions.
To promote the event, a group visit will also be arranged to watch the crocodile on CCTV in Kadoorie Farm & Botanical Garden (KFBG) on July 17.
Selection of the participants of the tour will be made by RTHK through a quiz on conservation and protection of endangered species starting today until July 16.
The crocodile has been under the expert care of KFBG since June 23. Though still refusing to eat, there are signs that it is regaining health.
