Ten new conservation books published
Tuesday, July 13, 2004
The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department, together with Friends of the Country Parks, have published 10 new books on local flora and fauna to cater to the ever-rising interests of nature lovers.
The collection features the beauty of the countryside, trees, wetland venture and ecology and biodiversity of Hong Kong, providing useful and interesting information on the city's amazing natural resources.
The animal species covered in the series include birds, butterflies, green turtles and freshwater fish. The authors have come up with innovative ideas in presenting their beloved animals, appearing in such forms as practical guides, essays and children's tales.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the book launch today (July 13), Secretary for the Environment, Transport and Works Dr Sarah Liao said the books would promote public awareness of nature conservation.
She said they would bring the total number of AFCD publications concerning nature, which had incorporated the results of the government's local ecological research, to more than 50.
The publications are on sale at all major bookstores, with most of them being bilingual.
