Relief fund for farmers affected by Typhoon Prapiroon
Monday, August 7, 2006
Local farmers suffering agricultural loss caused by Typhoon Prapiroon can register with the Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department (AFCD) for an emergency relief fund from today to August 15.
A department spokesman said today (August 7) that an appropriate amount of relief fund will be released to affected farming households according to the level of damage suffered.
About 80 hectares of farmland in the New Territories were found to be affected by the typhoon following the department's preliminary investigation.
"After each typhoon or natural disaster, our Agricultural Development Division staff will inspect farmland areas in the New Territories to assess the subsequent agricultural damage," the spokesman said.
"Depending on the gravity of the damage, we will launch a relief operation to ease the financial hardship of affected farmers."
Applicants for the fund should register at the division's office on 5/F, Yuen Long Government Offices, 2, Kiu Lok Square, Yuen Long, or call 2476 2424 for enquiries.
