Friday, February 15, 2008

The Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation Department said today (February 15) that the Oriental Magpie Robin found earlier in Cheung Sha Wan was confirmed to be H5N1 positive after a series of laboratory tests.

The bird carcass was found and collected on February 10 at Cheung Sha Wan Wholesale Food Market. The Oriental Magpie Robin is a common resident bird in Hong Kong.

A department spokesman reminded people to observe good personal hygiene.

"They should avoid personal contact with wild birds or live poultry and clean their hands thoroughly after coming into contact with them," he said.
