The Agriculture and Fisheries Department (AFD) today (Tuesday) uploaded to its website highlights of a new travel guide - Exploring Hong Kong's Countryside: A Visitor Companion.

It is an extended service to supplement the launching of the new guidebook which is published to help both local and overseas visitors to explore Hong Kong's unique and enchanting countryside.

Speaking on the updated information, AFD's Senior Country Parks Officer, Dr Yeung Ka-ming, said: "The website will include maps of the six recommended countryside regions presented in the guidebook.

"Varied geographical features, locations of public transport stops and interchanges, boundaries of country/ marine parks as well as hiking routes of each region will be shown in the maps."

Dr Yeung noted that the countryside of Hong Kong offered some of South China's most striking and valuable natural landscape while its ecology rival far larger places.

"Most of the attractions are within easy reach from urban areas.

"We hope to provide an alternative choice for visitors and to promote better understanding and appreciation of our local environment through encouraging nature-based tourism," he added.

A section extracted from the guidebook covering the scenic gem of the New Territories, the Sai Kung Peninsula, has been uploaded.

"Cybers can see the sample section, with all stunning pictures of Sai Kung countryside, in both Chinese and English.

"It will give visitors a glimpse of what the new guidebook is like," Dr Yeung said.

The address of the website is http://www.afdparks.gov.hk.
