Animal Health Certificate - Dogs/cats being exported to the Mainland
Arrangements for Exporting Cats and Dogs from Hong Kong to the Mainland
According to the announcement from the General Administration of Customs of the People's Republic of China regarding the quarantine of pets entering China, when bringing pets (dogs and cats) from Hong Kong into the Mainland, the following requirements must be followed (including but not limited to):
- Each person can only bring one dog or one cat per entry;
- The dog or cat must be implanted with a microchip that is compliant with the International Standards Organization (ISO);
- An animal health certificate issued within 14 days before entry must be provided;
- A valid rabies vaccination certificate must be presented upon entry.
Procedures for Endorsement of the Animal Health Certificate
Please arrange a registered veterinary surgeon to conduct a clinical examination for your dog/cat and issue an animal health certificate in accordance with the import requirements of the Mainland.
The animal health certificate must include the following information (including but not limited to):
- Information about the dog or cat (including breed, scientific name, gender, coat colour, date of birth or age);
- Microchip number;
- Date and location of microchip implantation (the certificate must clearly state the word “implanted” );
- Results of the clinical examination (must confirm that the animal is free of rabies and any other infectious and parasitic animal diseases);
- Date of the clinical examination.
Reminders: According to the import requirements of the Mainland, any alteration to the above information will render the certificate invalid.
When applying for the official endorsement of animal health certificate, please submit the following documents in person to our office:
- The animal health certificate issued by the registered veterinary surgeon;
- Rabies vaccination record;
- Dog licence (applicable for dogs);
- The application form for animal health certificate and declaration form from our office (available at our designated address).
If the applicant has submitted the satisfactory documents and paid the fees, the endorsement process will take one working day to complete. (Applications that are submitted in the morning session will be ready for collection in the morning of the next working day. The same principle applies to applications submitted in the afternoon session.)
