| Function
Under the Genetically Modified Organisms (Control of Release) Ordinance, an expert group consisting of members appointed by the Secretary for the Environment was established to advise the Director of Agriculture, Fisheries and Conservation (the Director) on the administration of the Ordinance.
Terms of Reference
The Expert Group shall advise the Director upon any question which he may refer to it in connection with the administration of the Ordinance, including the processing of individual GMO approval applications, variation requests and non-disclosure requests, and the granting of exemptions.
Composition
To ensure that the Director will be able to benefit from relevant expert advice when different areas of GMO issues are involved, the Expert Group comprises members who are public officers and members who are not public officers and appointed from different sectors, including -
- Academics,
- Environmental protection,
- Farming,
- Biotechnology, and
- Trading.
