U-mark Sandperch Parapercis snyderi (Pinguipedidae)

U-mark sandperches are commonly found in sandy areas around shallow coral communities. They rest on their pectoral fins, looking for the bottom dwelling crustaceans that they feed on. This is probably the most abundant of the 8 species of sandperch known from Hong Kong.

Yellow hawkfish inhabit exposed rocky reefs below 10 m depth and can be quite common in some areas. The colour varies from yellow to pale with a series of mottled brown patches. Hawkfish are carnivorous, feeding on small fish and crustaceans. Two species of hawkfish are known from Hong Kong but the species, Cirrhitichthys aprinus is very rare.
