What are their major threats?

The major threats include:

1. In some areas, horseshoe crabs were over-harvested for food, fertilizer and fish bait (by Mike Millard).

   Coastal development which causes loss of spawning and nursery grounds;
2. Pollution which results in lower reproduction and survival rate;
3. Over-harvesting of the animal for food, fertilizer and fish bait.
