Life History and Behaviour How do they "breathe"?
Like other marine invertebrates, horseshoe crabs obtain oxygen from water through their gills which look like pages of a book and are located on the underside of the abdomen. When exposed on a beach, horseshoe crabs can also obtain oxygen from the air, but their gills have to be moist enough to do so. |
