Accessibility: Strenuous; suitable for experienced hikers and campers
Introduction: With its coastal location and backed by Nga Ying Kok, this site captures a splendid view of ocean. Overlooking 1.3 km long Yi O rocky beach line, sand and stones form alluvial, sediment deposits which have been brought down upstream for years. Out of the bay area, you may even notice yellow water and sea water far away and several islands which belong to China sovereignty.
Facilities: Barbeque pits, benches, cloth lines, drains and tables
Hygienic facilities: Dry toilet pit
Source of water: Stream water (seasonal supply)
Highlights: Tai O - Renowned as "Hong Kong's Venice", it was an old fishing village supplying signature products such as preserved salty fish and fish paste. It still retains numerous traditions, natural ecology and unique water houses.
Country trails: Lantau Trail Stage 7
How to get there: Take Bus 11 (to Tai O) from Tung Chung Town Centre or Bus 1 (to Tai O) from Mui Wo. Alight at Tai O Bus Terminus. Then, enter Lantau Trail Stage 7 through Nam Chung Tsuen, and it would take about 40 minutes to arrive at the entrance of the site.
Remarks: The campsites are categorized into 3 size classes with reference to the number of potential tent space which is estimated based on the approximate size of a 4-person tent and the required cooking space and access pathway for campers. This is for reference only.
Campsite category: Small / Medium / Large
Small: for category with less than 20 tent spaces.
Medium: for category with 20 – 50 tent spaces.
Large: for category with more than 50 tent spaces.
