Introduction

Promoting the development of leisure fisheries is one of the key measures in the “Blueprint for the Sustainable Development of Agriculture and Fisheries”. AFCD is actively carrying out relevant tasks, with a view to fostering the development of diversified industry, creating job opportunities, and providing richer leisure options for both locals and tourists.

Hong Kong boasts a rich history and culture of fisheries, along with unique fishing ports and villages, making it an ideal location for developing leisure fisheries. The hallmark of leisure fisheries activities in Hong Kong is their ability to offer participants a relaxed and diverse experience, deepening their understanding of local fishing history and practices. This immersive experience fosters a deeper connection with fishermen's culture and encourages the preservation of this valuable heritage. Leisure fisheries activities are found throughout Hong Kong—from the east in Sai Kung to the south in Aberdeen, and westward to Tai O to the north in the New Territories, leisure fisheries activities across different regions showcase their unique charm, allowing both locals and tourists to enjoy themselves.

AFCD will fully utilize the unique advantages of each region to launch different tourism routes so as to enrich the tourism experiences of locals and tourists, in terms of “Food, Play, Shopping and Learning”. In addition, we will spur creativity and incorporate new elements to promote surrounding cultural products, festivals and educational activities.
