Who we are
AFCD’s mission is to serve the community by providing services to secure orderly and efficient production and marketing of agricultural and fishery produce, enforce regulations on plants, pesticides and animal controls, and conserve our natural environment and safeguard the ecological integrity. |
- We pride ourselves on setting high standards and we are ISO/IEC 17025 accredited by the National Association of Testing Authorities, Australia (NATA).
- Our anatomical pathology is the first in Hong Kong to receive accreditation by Hong Kong Laboratory Accreditation Scheme (HOKLAS) in the test category of “veterinary testing”.
- We were awarded a “Testing and Certification Manpower Development Corporate Award” by the Hong Kong Council for Testing and Certification in 2021-22 in recognition of our commitment to staffs’ training and development.
- The scope of testing is diverse and includes anatomical pathology, immunology, molecular diagnostics, microbiology and chemical residues testing.

- You will be supported to gain your Part I MLT registration and explore the areas of interest down your career pathway as you rotate to work among professionals of different areas.
- You will learn about emerging disease and zoonotic diseases. Examples of emerging diseases include Avian Influenza, African Swine fever and Lumpy Skin Disease.
- In collaboration with other academia, we are the world’s first detection of a dog infected with SARS-CoV-2 in 2020 and in early 2022 the first evidence of pet hamster to human transmission of SARS-CoV-2.
- You will build up experience in laboratory accreditation and learn about the importance of quality management.
- A brand new facility located in the heart of Kowloon, focusing on Antimicrobial Resistance testing and Whole Genome Sequencing is expected to become operational in 2024.
