You can help!

The public can help us conserve the freshwater turtles!

Do not release exotic species

Never release your exotic pet turtles to the wild, especially the Red-eared Sliders and Snapping Turtles. The former is suspected to the decline of the native Reeve's Turtles while the latter can cause serious damages if they are not handled properly.

Report illegal traps

If hikers find traps or trapping activities in the countryside, they can destroy and discard the traps and report the case to the 1823 Call Centre or the police in an emergency. Our enforcement officers will follow up with the cases accordingly.

Do not buy turtles from illegal sources

The public should not buy Chinese Three-lined Box Turtles (Cuora trifasciata) or Big-headed Terrapins (Platysternon megacephalum) from vendors without possession permits as this would not only offend the Protection of Endangered Species of Animals and Plants Ordinance and possibly the Wild Animals Protection Ordinance, you also participate in the deprivation of the locally and globally rare turtle species!
