Wild Animal Calls
Frogs There are more than 20 species of frogs native to Hong Kong. They are amphibians and their lives are dependent on water. Nevertheless, some species such as Asian Common Toad (Bufo melanostictus) and Asiatic Painted Frog (Kaloula pulchra pulchra) are rather adapted to the dryer urban environment. Furthermore, settings such as artificial ponds may support other frog species, e.g. Günther's Frog (Rana guentheri). The calls of frogs Most species of frogs would breed in summer, some such as the males of Asiatic Painted Frog would make loud calls to attract the attention of the females. This is a natural phenomenon and would subside after the end of the breeding season (about a month only). |
